Fast’s paintings have been described as “expressing the spirit” of the subject she is painting. Most of the work focuses primarily on trees, groves, and natural forms on the Central Coast of California and in national parks. She rekindled her fascination with diverse landforms and designs in nature in vacations to Yellowstone, the Shoshone National Forest, and Alaska�s Kenai peninsula. She enjoys the lucent qualities of layered transparent watercolor, mixing direct painting with resists, textures, and the �happy accidents� of gestural painting.
